ABOUT

BENITO JUAREZ ELEMENTARY

We are a small and close-knit school nestled into a quiet neighborhood in the heart of Serra Mesa and Mission Village area, overlooking the SDCCU Stadium. Many families choose our school for its excellent programs, our highly trained staff, including bilingual administrative and support staff, and our location handy to workplaces in Mission Valley and Kearny Mesa.

All students will participate in our 50/50 Dual Language Program in order to become bilingual, bi-literate, and multicultural learners. In 2022-2023, we will begin transitioning to a 90/10 program starting with Kinder. Students entering the program in 2nd and 5th grades must be native Spanish speakers or transfer from a Spanish Immersion School. No exceptions will be made. In order to be eligible for our Dual Language program, families must commit to staying at the school for 6 years (K-5th) or, through 5th grade if your child enters after kindergarten. If you know if an impending move or the potential for an impending move you are unfortunately, not eligible. A six year commitment letter must be signed during registration. Juarez does not offer an English only strand available for those not interested in Spanish Immersion. The Spanish immersion classes are taught in a team teaching setting with half of the day taught in Spanish and half in English.

Our small size gives Juarez a comfortable feel that helps students and our parent community feel welcome and valued. Our students' families are very involved in their children's education, helping staff, and bringing special programs and events that supplement learning.

The mission of Juarez is to nurture an inclusive and equitable environment where diversity is celebrated, understood, and acknowledged. Each individual child will continuously develop to their full potential, becoming biliterate and bilingual and reaching high academic achievement in both languages. Acting with integrity, students will become productive and socially just citizens of the world.

Our vision is that each student will become critical thinkers while they evolve into their individual authentic self and build the cognitive and linguistic asset of multilingualism, and will approach learning with cultural humility. Students will promote equity and equality to support underrepresented groups. Students will become culturally competent global-minded citizens: agents of change who value diversity and develop skill sets to improve the world around them.
