Please park legally... do not block driveways, park in red zones, or park in the bus loading zone. Please use the pedestrian crosswalk. Parents are discouraged from entering the school parking lot as there is no turn about space. However, our parents with Handicapped Placards may enter the parking lot. ONLY VEHICLES WITH HANDICAPPED PLACARDS MAY PARK IN THE HANDICAPPED SPACES. WE HAVE SEVERAL DISABLED STUDENTS AND PARENTS WHO NEED THESE SPACES! PLEASE DO NOT USE THE HANDICAPPED SPACES FOR DROP OFF! Neighborhood students may walk to school, following all pedestrian laws. Parents are encouraged to accompany walking students to campus for safety reasons. Pleae cross Melbourne at the designated cross walk. Please do not "jay walk."

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in grades four and above ride bicycles to school. Although the school has designated an area near the library for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Students are dismissed promptly at 3:35 p.m. (1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays) and should leave campus or be picked up immediately upon dismissal. Please pick your child up on time, as there is no student supervision available after dismissal for non PrimeTime students. Students who ride the bus to and from school will leave shortly after dismissal. If a student is not picked up by 4:00 pm, and attempts to contact a responsible adult are unsuccessful, then staff will contact School Police or SDPD for support.

Student Pick Up

Please meet your child at the front of the school lawn at dismissal. Neighborhood parents are encouraged to park on Melbourne in legal parking zones. Please do not park in red zones or block neighboring driveways. Only cars with handicapped placards will be allowed in the parking lot at dismissal, unless prior arrangements for special circumstances have been made with school administration. Please ensure the safety of all students by not parking in the bus loading area and/or asking your child(ren) to cross the street without adult accompaniment. Additionally, please ensure that your child crosses at the painted crosswalk. Drivers are asked to please drive with caution, always on the alert for student pedestrians, especially at nearby intersections, The school's main concern is for the health and safety of your children.

Specific dismissal procedures vary by grade level, as indicated below:

Kindergarten: Students are dismissed from the hallway outside of the front office door area by their teacher upon seeing a responsible adult or older sibling.
Grades 1-5: Teachers walk all students to the front entrance (lawn area) of school. All students must be picked up at the front entrance (lawn area) whether they walk home with an older sibling or are picked up by an adult. For safety reasons, students are not to wait on the street to be picked up.
PrimeTime Extended Day Program Students: All PrimeTime program students are picked up at their classrooms by a PrimeTime staff member.
Bus Students: All buses park in the loading/unloading zone on Melbourne Drive.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office to sign him/her out. The office closes at 4:00 and there is no after school supervision provided for non PrimeTime pupils. If a student is left after 4:00 pm and attempts to contact a responsible party have been unsuccessful, then staff will contact School Police or SDPD for support.
