When on School Grounds

Supervision

Supervision begins at 8:50 am on the playground and ends at dismissal. After arriving at school, students may participate in our breakfast program, visit on the playground, or participate in the morning run program. All children should be off campus within 10 minutes after the last bell rings. Students are not allowed to go to classrooms or loiter in the hallways during morning supervision. There is no supervision provided by staff after school. Students, staff and visitors are expected to avoid disruption by quietly passing classes in session.

On rainy mornings starting at 8:50, students are to report to their classroom.

Adults on Campus

All staff is directed to check that any non employee adult on campus has a visitor's pass. Any adult on campus without a pass will be redirected to the office to sign in and obtain a pass. Adults are expected to conduct themselves appropriately for an elementary school site (ie: appropriate language, attire, and behavior). Any adult displaying inappropriate behaviors will be directed to leave the premises.

Do Not Bring

Nuts or Foods Processed with Nuts

Juarez is an allergy aware school and families are respectfully asked to refrain from bringing nuts or foods processed with nuts in lunches and snacks. We have many students with serious nut allergies and are at risk of anaphylactic shock due to cross contamination (ie: a student eats nuts, then plays on equipment and the nut oils are transferred...later a student with a nut allergy comes in contact with the same equipment and suffers a reaction). Please help the school keep all students healthy!

Animals

Pets and other animals are not to be brought onto school grounds at any time. Animals are permitted at school only when needed for instructional purposes and when under the strict control of qualified instructors or handlers.

Toys, Games, Etc.

Students are not allowed to bring toys to school as it is a distraction to learning and often results in lost or broken toys. This includes trading cards. The school provides sufficient items for children to play with for both outdoor and indoor recess. CD players, Game Boys, or any other type electronic entertainment devices are not permitted on school grounds. Theft or loss of such items will not be investigated by school personnel.

Chewing Gum

Chewing gum is not allowed on school grounds.

Student Phone Usage

Cell Phones and other Electronic Signaling Devices

Cell Phones

As we know, society has changed and there is a bona fide need for some students to have cell phones. Juarez has implemented a cell phone policy to try to keep these devices secure. Teachers must implement it in their classrooms as follows:

  • Each morning, cell phones are to be collected, by the teacher, from any student who brings one to school.

  • All collected cell phones are placed into a basket.

  • The basket is placed in either a locked cabinet, or in a cabinet that has a door.

  • Classroom doors are always locked when it is vacant.

  • Phones are returned to students at the end of each day.

If students do not turn their cell phones in to their teachers each morning, Juarez will not be liable for any thefts.

All students (TK-6) may have cell phones, pagers, and other electronic signaling devices on school grounds and school buses, at school-sponsored activities, and while under the supervision of district employees. Students may use cellular phones, pagers, and other electronic signaling devices on school campus only before school begins and after school ends. These devices must be kept out of sight (in backpacks or given to the teacher to hold) and turned off during instruction and in the classroom. Under no circumstances are students to use their devices during the school day.

Unauthorized use of these devices distracts from the learning environment. School officials, including classroom teachers, may take devices away from students for inappropriate use. Devices will be held in a designated location in the school office for parents to pick up. Repeated unauthorized use of such devices may lead to disciplinary action.

Students and parents are reminded that during an emergency situation, cellular sites may be overwhelmed due to a high volume of calls. Should this occur, emergency communication could also be affected. It is important that cell phones and other devices be used sparingly so that emergency services have priority to assist the students and staff on the site.

Theft or loss of such devices will not be investigated by school personnel. Students bring such devices at their own risk.

Student Telephone Calls

Student use of school phones is for emergencies only. This is up to the teacher and/or office staff discretion. They are encouraged to bring all needed materials and assignments to school without the need to call home for forgotten items. Please make sure to make arrangements with your child before leaving home in regards to transportation, lunch money, homework, childcare, and after school activities. If they are going home with a friend after school, arrangements need to be made before they come to school as calling to make last minute arrangements will not be allowed.

If an urgent personal message is necessary for your child or your child's teacher, please call the school office and office staff will assist you. It is not appropriate for parents to be calling or texting staff on their cell phones during the instructional day. Phone calls will not be put through to the classroom during instructional time unless it is an emergency. At Juarez, instruction takes first priority, thus our office staff has been instructed to make every effort not to interrupt classrooms during instruction, and therefore, will not put phone calls through to the classrooms.
