Our school promotes a positive learning environment for students by implementing a variety of programs and practices. School wide weekly morning assemblies set the tone for behavior and learning expectations. A Character Education program focuses on teaching the 6 pillars of character (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, fairness, and citizenship), and all students are encouraged to "live the Juarez Way" by being strong, honest, fair, and wise. Exemplary behavior is recognized with positive comments, awards, stickers, public recognition, and reward time. Our Guidance Assistant interfaces regularly with students who need social-emotional support. The staff along with the District Counselor provide lessons on character traits for students to learn good work habits, develop problem-solving skills, resolve conflicts, and enhance self-esteem.
Our student population includes pupils with special needs, including students with learning and developmental disabilities, orthopedic and ambulatory disabilities, autism, and health conditions. We embrace all of our students and enjoy the opportunities to learn more about each other through our differences. We believe that the lessons of friendship, compassion, and tolerance are just as important as the academic lessons we teach.
Due to the enrollment of many students with severe nut allergies, nuts and nut products are not permitted. We respectfully request that for the health of our highly allergic pupils, parents do not send any nut products in their child's lunch. Our school lunches are prepared nut free as well.
Class Size
To ensure each student receives an appropriate level of inpidual attention and support, class sizes are kept as small as possible. In grades K-3, each class has a maximum of 24 students. This is possible in part through funding provided by California's K-3 Class Size Reduction program which began in 1996.
Diversity
The mixture of cultures and languages of our students results in perse classrooms and additional opportunities for learning, teamwork and appreciation of one another. We enjoy a perse population that includes students of Hispanic, Asian, African American, African national, Middle Eastern, and white students. persity is honored and celebrated at Juarez.
